A professor of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Ing. Prof. Isaac Monney, has won the 2025 Engineering Concepts and Innovation Award by the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE).
The award recognises engineers or organisations that demonstrate excellence in innovative project design and implementation, with significant contribution to national economy, environmental and social impact, and commitment to sustainable development.
Prof. Monney has dedicated himself to offering solutions to water and sanitation challenges bedevilling most communities across the country.
The award, bestowed on him at the grand closing banquet of GhIE’s 55th Annual General Meeting and Engineering Conference in March 2025 in Accra, symbolises his unrelentless contribution and innovative spirit that continue to permeate Ghana’s engineering landscape.
Before this award, he had won the Most Promising Startup Award by the DTU Skylab’s Next Generation Water Action in 2021 for his innovation in the wastewater sector.
Prof. Monney, who currently heads the Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, has a strong background in civil engineering and is an active member of the International Water Association (IWA), UK, and the Ghana Science Association. He holds a doctorate degree in Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management with research interests in affordable water, sanitation, and resource-recovery systems.
As an academic, he has published over thirty peer-reviewed journal articles and produced additional conference papers, technical reports, and policy briefs that attract significant citation within the environmental engineering community.
