The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has begun strategic collaborative partnerships with key institutions in Ghana to further its mandate to develop strong linkages with industry and the community for holistic teacher training.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Ghana (CILT) and the Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult (AFESC), a subsidiary of the JOSPONG Group, have both signed a five-year renewable Memorandum of Understanding, with AAMUSTED.

The parties agreed to do collaborative research in any mutual fields of interest, develop curricula, exchange materials, and documents, and collaborate in teaching and consultancy services. They also agreed to develop new market-driven and technology-centered academic programmes, roll out short professional courses, and pursue other mutually beneficial activities.

With AFESC especially, AAMUSTED further agreed to work with the Consult to identify gaps in the operations of informal waste collectors and undertake appropriate research, develop specific training programmes for the waste collectors, including tricycle operators, and provide logistical support and maintenance of the equipment used by tricycle operators.

The Vice-Chancellor of AAMUSTED, Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, and the Acting Registrar, Mr. Michael Kofi Adu, signed both MoUs on behalf of AAMUSTED, while the President of CILT-Ghana, Dr. Ebo Hammond, and his Vice, (responsible for Education and Professional Development), Mr. Neil Vorleto, signed for CILT-Ghana. Dr. Abena Asomaning Antwi, Managing Director of AFESC, and Dr. Kofi Sekyere Boateng also signed on behalf of AFESC.

During the CILT-Ghana signing ceremony recently at the University’s main campus in Kumasi, the Vice-Chancellor of AAMUSTED, Prof. Sarfo, expressed gratitude to CILT-Ghana for the interest and enthusiasm shown to collaborate with AAMUSTED.

Dr. Hammond indicated, for instance, that through the collaboration, CILT-Ghana could offer three accreditations – accredit the institution to enroll students to pursue CILT-Ghana professional programmes, accredit these programmes for AAMUSTED, and partner with AAMUSTED in the area of research and training.
