The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has been awarded the 2024 Public University of the Year by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS). The award recognises AAMUSTED’s outstanding contributions, commitment to excellence, and impactful work throughout the year.
The University’s Vice Dean of Student Affairs at its Asante Mampong Campus, Dr. Fritz R. C. Bonsu, took home the Dean of the Year award, and an AAMUSTED student and NUGS Executive, Miss Bridget Bansah, was honoured the Best NUGS Executive of the year.
The prestigious awards were presented to the winners during the 57th NUGS Award Ceremony at the Accra College of Education on November 23, 2024. Representing the University to receive the award at the massively attended ceremony were the Registrar, Mr. Augustus Kwaw Brew, the Director of Finance, Dr. Jeff Danquah Boakye, and the Head of Documentation and Web Management, Mr. David Owusu-Antwi.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, was the Special Guest of Honour for the event. A range of stakeholders, including government officials, representatives of educational institutions, students, and business leaders, were in attendance.
The NUGS award adds to the growing global recognition AAMUSTED is receiving for its hard work, innovation, collaborations, etc. The University recently was ranked the best in Ghana and fourth best in Sub-Sahara Africa for Teaching Skills in its Sub-Saharan African universities impact ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE), a London-based leading global-ranking agency and a strategic partner of Elsevier.
AAMUSTED is Ghana’s Premier Public TVET and Entrepreneurial Development Teacher Education University. It was established by an Act of Parliament of Ghana (Act 1026) in August 2020 as part of the Government of Ghana’s determination and golden agenda to facilitate the implementation of innovative TVET, Entrepreneurship, and industrialisation for the economic and sustainable development of the country.
