The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and University for Development Studies (UDS) are rolling out a GTEC-accredited Special Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (SPGDE) programme for National Service persons serving in SHS/SHTS who did not pursue education for their bachelor’s degree but are desirous of obtaining professional certification in teaching.

Details of the programme are as follows:

  • Duration: One National Service year starting March 2024
  • Mode: face-to-face/online
  • Fees: (Gh¢4750.00 per semester)

Entry Requirements:

Persons with all the following characteristics will qualify for admission into the SPGDE programme:

  1. National Service Persons teaching in Senior High/Technical Schools
  2. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in disciplines outside of education with graduating class of Second-Class Lower Division and above, from an accredited institution.
  • Candidates with graduating CGPAs classified as Third Class and Pass will be interviewed.
  1. Candidates who participated in the mandatory 2-week national pedagogy training by NTC

Prospects:

Graduates of the SPGDE programme will have the following employment/academic progression potentials:

  1. qualify to write the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), and obtain a professional teacher license
  2. qualify to be considered for recruitment into the Ghana Education Service (GES) as teachers
  3. qualify to be potentially employed within private pre-tertiary institutions
  4. pursue postgraduate programmes in the field of education
