I hold a Master of Philosophy in Economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (First Class Honours) from the University of Cape Coast. In addition, I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Education, Winneba which enhanced my teaching abilities. I have also undertaken self-study certifications through edX and Coursera mainly in Quantitative Methods, Model Thinking and Global Poverty as a way of continuing education.  In terms of my employment experience, I am currently a Senior Lecturer and Head, Department of Economics Education, Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development. Previously I was an Assistant Lecturer and later became Lecturer at the University of Education Winneba. I have served as Postgraduate Programmes Coordinator and also a Coordinator   for Weekend and Evening Programmes. In addition, I have served as an Assistant Economic Officer at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in Accra. The positions  I  have held contributed to my specialization in econometrics, formulation and analysis of economic policies and provision of higher education. Such work is underpinned by my broad research interests in econometric and statistical analysis as applied to microfinance, poverty reduction, international economics and trade. I am particularly interested in the interaction of economic policies and development in Sub-Saharan Africa. My work regularly includes sophisticated math and statistical tools using software, such as STATA, EVIEWS, and SPSS, to tackle complex economic problems.

Research Interests and Supervision

I conduct research on microfinance, poverty alleviation, international trade, financial economics, as well as policy analysis. I focus my interest on the nexus of microcredit and poverty reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa. My research uses econometrics and statistical modelling approaches and tools like panel regression and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). I would encourage master’s students in the following areas to seek my supervision:(Some areas where I have an explicit interest include but remain limited to the following)

  • Microfinance and poverty alleviation approaches
  • International trade and economic growth
  • Financial risk and performance of firms
  • Econometric and statistical methods in economic studies
  • The issues of monetary and fiscal policies in less developed countries

I look forward to instructing students in performing valuable research on issues affecting most developing nations.

Other Interests

    • Recently, I have expanded my bounds to the uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in economics and education. In particular, I wonder what tools based on AI can be used to improve the quality of economic forecasts, the effectiveness of management decision-making, and the efficiency of resource distribution in development projects.  In relation to education I seek to implement AI for automated learning tailored to individual students, AI-driven automation of repetitive educational workflow, and broadening the scope of students’ analytical capabilities by introducing AI-oriented statistical and econometric instruments. I also consider it important to study the ethical problems of implementing AI and their possible consequences for economic and social policies in developing countries. This, precisely, enables me to focus on integrating myself within the present-day developments and treating research and teaching with a blend of modernity and creativity.
