The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) Branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has successfully conducted elections to select new leadership of the Association for the next two years.
The elections, held on August 13, 2025, witnessed the re-election of the incumbent President, Prof. Yarhands Dissou Arthur, and Secretary, Dr. Courage S. K. Dogbe, who both secured huge votes to retain their respective positions for a second and final term.
Prof. Arthur polled 158 votes, representing 62.20% of the total valid ballots cast, defeating his contender, Prof. Francis Ohene Boateng, who obtained 97 votes (37.80%). In the race for Secretary, Dr. Dogbe garnered 178 votes (70%) to overcome his opponent, Eng. Dr. Albert K. Awopone.
Other officers elected were Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah as Vice-President, Dr. Kwadwo Ofori Frimpon as Treasurer, and Dr. Abena Adasa Nkrumah as Women’s Executive Officer. Each of them ran unopposed and secured more than 90% of the 255 valid votes cast.
Following the declaration of results, Prof. Arthur expressed profound gratitude to members of the Association for their overwhelming support. He described his re-election as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership and pledged to continue advancing the welfare of members.
He highlighted progress achieved under his first term, including improvements in allowances for invigilation, sandwich teaching, course development, and resit examinations. He assured members of his renewed commitment to consolidating those gains and urged all to foster unity and cooperation for the collective good of the Association.
In a gracious concession, Prof. F. O. Boateng and Eng. Dr. Awopone congratulated the newly elected executives and pledged their unflinching support for the success of AAMUSTED UTAG. Prof. Boateng, in particular, emphasised that leadership is defined not by titles but by service, and reaffirmed his resolve to contribute meaningfully to the progress of both the Association and the University.
