The Teachers and Educational Workers Union – Ghana (TEWU-GH) has held separate elections at the main Campus in Kumasi and the Asante Mampong Campus of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) to elect new leaders to steer affairs of the Union on the campuses for the next four (4) years. The elections were held simultaneously on June 19, 2024.
At the main campus, Mr. John Kankponang Kolan polled 40 of the 98 valid votes cast to win the Chairmanship position beating his contenders – Mr. Micheal Owusu (second) and Mr. Saviour Selly Agbleke, the incumbent going into the election, in the process.
The other winners in the elections are;
Mr. John Yaw Alorvie, Vice-Chairman
Ms. Joyce Sewornam Domey, Secretary
Mr. Jeffery Asare, Assistant Secretary
Mr. Amponsah Odoom, Trustee
Mr. Konlan, in a victory speech, expressed gratitude to the Union Members for the trust they had reposed in him by voting him as Chairman. “Together, we will work towards achieving better conditions for all, we shall work to unite our fronts and ensure accountability as leaders,’ he assured the cheering crowd.
At the Asante Mampong Campus, the incumbents for various positions were re-elected in a ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ election.
They are;
Mr. Benjamin Nketiah, Chairman
Mr. Bright Sefa Boachie, Vice-Chairman
Mrs. Gifty Acheampong, Secretary
Mr. David Nkrumah, Trustee.
Mr. Gershon Kwame Tengey, Assistant Secretary, is the only fresh entrant among the elected leaders
