The Honourable Deputy Minister of Education, in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Member of Parliament of Kwadaso Constituency, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, has visited the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) to inspect ongoing projects and gather firsthand information on the University’s progress in implementing its mandate.

Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, Dep. Minister of Education and MP for Kwadaso Constituency

The government established AAMUSTED in August 2020 as part of the mega plan to drive Ghana’s economic growth through TVET and entrepreneurial development to create jobs, boost industrialisation, address the skills gap in the job market, and ultimately achieve economic prosperity for citizens.

During the visit on November 26, 2024, the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo, presented to the Deputy Minister, the University’s current state of affairs, highlighting some achievements, challenges, and projections. They also conducted him around several ongoing projects and workshops. Among the project sites visited were the 3500-capacity lecture block, the 3000-capacity Convention Hall, and the Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation Centre.

Prof. Nyarko could not hide his pleasant surprise about the significant improvement that AAMUSTED had recorded in just four years of establishment. He was pleased that after many years of stalling, the government had restarted construction works on the University’s 3000-capacity convention hall.

He commended the University Management for undertaking projects with internally generated funds to bring significant improvement in the conditions of the University. He, thus, assured them to leverage his position as the Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency, where AAMUSTED is located, to explore avenues of support to the University.

Prof. Nyarko also praised the government for doing so well for AAMUSTED, judging from the development he saw. However, he conceded that there was still more the government could do to propel AAMUSTED to the deserved height. He was sure that governments would continue to prioritise TVET for national development.
