Final-year Master of Philosophy (MPhil) students in Fashion Design and Textiles Education at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) have developed an innovative bee suit designed to address specific deficiencies identified in existing products on the market.

The AAMUSTED Bee Suit is carefully crafted from lightweight, breathable fabrics, and features a fully-netted hat that extends to the shoulders and is reinforced with boning mechanism to spring upward when worn.

On August 7, 2025, the Department of Fashion Design and Textiles Education (DFDTE) of the Faculty of Vocational Education (FVE), whose students developed the innovative Bee Suit, donated the first eight (8) bee suit designs to the Faculty of Agriculture Education (FAE) to support the Department of Animal Sciences Education in apiculture (beekeeping) activities.

Presenting the suits, the Dean of the FVE, Dr. Josephine Aboagyewaa-Ntiri, emphasised that the AAMUSTED Bee Suit had been meticulously crafted to guarantee enhanced protection and comfort for apiculturists in addition to ensuring durability. She expressed optimism that the design would attract national attention and encourage investors to partner with the FVE for large-scale commercial production.

She commended the final-year students for conceptualising and initiating the design as part of their academic work, expressing the hope that they would further develop it into a viable business venture after school by leveraging the entrepreneurial knowledge acquired at AAMUSTED.

Dr. Ntiri described the donation to the FAE as demonstration of inter-faculty collaboration, which is crucial for advancing the University’s mandate.

The Dean of the FAE, Prof. (Mrs.) Margaret Esi Essilfie, upon receiving the suits, expressed appreciation for the gesture and assured the FVE that they would be put to judicious use to maximise their benefits for the University.

The Head of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Prof. Stephen Larbi-Koranteng, also expressed his gratitude to the FVE and particularly applauded the spirit of inter-faculty collaboration, which he impressed on all faculties to advance the overall development of AAMUSTED.
