The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has held an orientation programme for the 2024/2025 cohort of fresh postgraduate and undergraduate sandwich students. The event was designed to equip the newcomers with essential information on all aspects of university life to ensure their smooth integration into the academic community.
The orientation covered a range of critical topics, including ‘A Conducive Environment for Teaching and Learning and Channels of Communication;’ ‘Procedures for Payment of Fees, Scholarships, and Government Bursaries;’ ‘Academic Rules and Services;’ ‘Library Services at AAMUSTED;’ and ‘Medical Examinations and Health Services.’ Other areas addressed were ‘Guidance and Counselling Services;’ ‘Campus Security;’ ‘Information Technology Services;’ and ‘Academic Skills and Networking.’
A special session was organised for postgraduate students to interact with the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Prof. Humphrey Danso, who briefed them on research expectations and key requirements of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).
In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Boateng, the students were assured that choosing AAMUSTED was one of the best decisions they could make. He noted that the University remains committed to their academic success and future prospects.

Prof. Sarfo highlighted the significant investments the University has made in its infrastructure, particularly its state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops, which he described as among the best-resourced in the country. He also praised the dedication of the teaching and non-teaching staff who, he said, are committed professionals ready to support the students’ academic journey.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to help protect and preserve university property to allow Management to channel resources into expansion rather than replacement of damaged or stolen items.

He further reminded them of the University’s growing reputation and encouraged them to contribute positively to its image. “I hope that you will devote yourselves to actions that enhance the enviable image of this University and support our quest to make her great and strong,” he said.
Prof. Sarfo also announced a flexible payment arrangement for students with financial challenges, allowing them to pay a minimum of 70 percent of their fees to register, with the balance to be settled by the end of the semester. He encouraged them to take advantage of this gesture to avoid penalties for late payment.
Addressing the postgraduate students specifically, he emphasised the intensity of their programmes and urged them to demonstrate commitment and discipline. He advised them to attend lectures regularly, avoid delays in selecting research topics, and begin work on their dissertations early to meet the University’s strict academic timelines.

The orientation was chaired by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Francis Ohene Boateng. Other speakers included Mrs. Abena Amoatemaa Ackorlie (Esq), Director of General Administration and Consular Services; Mr. Daniel Konin, Director of Academic Affairs; Dr. George Wireko Brobbey Bonsu, Deputy Director of Health Services; Mr. Nicholas Donkor, Director of IT Services; Miss Joana Dango, representing the University Librarian; and Mr. Daniel Konto, representing the Director of Finance.
Additional presentations were made by Mr. Daniel Kaba, representing the Head of University Security; Mr. Charles Obeng, representing the Guidance and Counselling Centre; Mr. David Aha, representing the Student Loan Trust Fund; and leaders of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
