A contingent of 34 members of the Army Cadet Corps of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) joined forces with hundreds of cadet corps from various Ghanaian tertiary and secondary schools at the Black Stars Square in Accra for the special parade session to commemorate the 2024 Republic Day of Ghana. The occasion held on July 1, 2024, also marked the 70th Anniversary of Cadet operations in Ghana.
The AAMUSTED contingent, donning their crisp uniforms, marched alongside their peers from other schools to demonstrate their commitment to service, leadership, and national pride.
His Excellency Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President of Ghana, graced the occasion as the Reviewing officer at the parade. He inspected the contingents and highly appreciated their precision turnout and flawless drill.
In his address, Vice-President Bawumia praised the Cadet Corps for their unwavering dedication and selfless commitment to serving their institutions and the nation. He acknowledged the sacrifices they made in pursuing excellence and service and commended them for their contributions to the development of Ghana.
Vice-President Bawumia directed the national leadership of the Cadet Corps to formally submit a memorandum to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) headquarters to petition for a dedicated 10% quota of GAF employment opportunities for members of the Cadet Corps. In his view, that would provide a clear pathway for cadets to transition into the GAF, leveraging their training, discipline, and skills to serve the nation.
Accompanying the 34-member contingent to the parade were three additional personnel who assumed special duties and served as reserve members in case of unforeseen circumstances. A distinguished Patron also led the contingent to Accra to provide guidance and support.
In a related development, the outgoing leadership of the AAMUSTED Army Cadet Corps for the 2023/2024 academic year formally handed over the reins of leadership to the incoming leadership for the 2024/2025 academic year. A special handover parade was held on August 9, 2024, to mark this important transition.
