The Governing Council of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has appointed Mr. Augustus Kwaw Brew and Dr. Jeff Boakye Danquah as the new Registrar and the Director of Finance, respectively, for the University. The Council decided on them at its meeting on Friday, May 13, 2022.

The appointments which are for a four-year tenure, take effect from October 1, 2022. They shall take over from Mr. Michael Kofi Adu and Mr. Geoffrey Mensah, who have held the two offices respectively in acting capacities since the establishment of AAMUSTED in August 2020.

As Registrar, Mr. Brew, currently the College Registrar at the Asante Mampong Campus of AAMUSTED, shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University. He will provide secretarial services for all Boards and Committees of Council and the Academic Board and its Sub-Committees, and have custody of the University Seal and affixing it to documents per the directions of the Council or the Academic Board in the exercise of their respective powers, among others.

For his part, Dr. Danquah, a Deputy Finance Director at the Koforidua Technical University and Consultant for Smat Accountancy, London, also shall prepare periodic statements of accounts and estimates for the consideration of the Academic Board. He shall call for and receive monies due the University and make, on behalf of the University, authorised payments, and report to the Finance Committee any case of failure to maintain the financial and other records of the University in the form required by the University Council.

Furthermore, he shall prepare the consolidated accounts of the Units of the University for the Finance Committee’s consideration, offer every facility to both internal and external auditors in the performance of their functions, and source funds for the University.

Moreover, both appointees shall be governed by such regulations as may be currently in force or embodied in circulars and instructions issued from time to time by the University and by government regulations for the time being in force.

Brief Profiles of Appointees

MR. AUGUSTUS KWAW BREW

Mr. Augustus Kwaw Brew studied at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he obtained a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts. He started his career as a Teacher with the Ghana Education Service. In 2005, his work in Higher Education Administration started as an Assistant Registrar with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). He worked briefly at the Examinations Department and later as Head of the Admissions Department, both departments under the Directorate of Academic Affairs. As the leader of the admissions team, he coordinated the University’s transition from the paper and in-house admission arrangements to an online admissions process. His efforts in student recruitment earned him an International Fellowship opportunity organised by the International Research and Exchange Board (IREX) and sponsored by the Carnegie International Corporation of New York. 

At the Directorate of Human Resource, Augustus was the Head of the Junior and Senior Staff Department. He and his team undertook administrative and policy initiatives such as the Assessment of the University Occupational Health and Safety Situation, and the development of the University’s redeployment policy, among others.

Brew spent a short period as the Administrative Head of the Institute for Distance and e-Learning before moving to the College of Agriculture Education, Asante Mampong, as the College Registrar.

At the inception of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Augustus was one of the senior administrative staff who assisted in establishing the University’s Administrative Structures. Until he was appointed Registrar, he was the Campus Registrar for the Asante Mampong Campus of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.

A member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Association of University Administrators (AUA), United Kingdom, Brew has served on various committees, including the University Council and the Professional Advisory Committee. Augustus has facilitated many training sessions and has some publications to his credit.

DR. JEFF BOAKYE DANQUAH

Dr. Boakye is a keen individual with excellent analytical thinking and originality of thought. He prefers the application of a multidiscipline and collaborative approach to

solving problems. He holds a Ph.D. in accounting from Bournemouth University, UK. He is a fellow member of ACCA and has an MBA in Finance from Leicester University, UK.  Dr. Boakye’s bachelor’s degree is in business administration, Accounting Option, obtained from the University of Ghana. He completed GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels education at the Atwimaman (Now Afia Kobi SHS) and Kumasi High School, respectively.

Dr. Boakye also holds a postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in higher education from the University of Education Winneba (UEW). He is currently Deputy Director of Finance at Koforidua Technical University and Consultant for Smart Accountancy, London. He has over 17 years of professional experience in finance, accounting, taxation, and auditing in Building and Construction, Education, Pharmaceutical, Charity, Public Sector, and Audit Practice. 

Dr. Boakye has held numerous managerial positions in reputable organizations in both Ghana and the UK, including Ag Director of Finance, Koforidua Technical University, Finance Manager, Millennium Promise Alliance Inc., Deputy Finance Manager, Kingston First London, Finance Manager Cressey Oasis Academy, London, Finance Director, Daisy’s Property Management Ltd, London. Dr. Boakye is a part-time lecturer on financial management and accounting software and was a visiting lecturer for some UK colleges and universities, including Westminster Kingsway College and London South Bank University.

His main research interest is in environmental accounting, sustainability, and other areas of corporate social responsibility. Dr. Danquah has published 12 papers  in many reputable and high-impact journals such as Business Strategy and Environment (Wiley), Technological Forecasting and Change (Elsevier), Accounting Education (Routledge, Taylor, and Francis), Environmental Reporting in Africa (Emerald), Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier) and Indian Journal of Corporate Governance (Sage.)

He is also skillful in strategic and operational financial management, Management Accounts and reconciliations (general ledger, control ledgers, and bank), Tax accounting services, Accounts Preparation based on IPSAS, Teaching in further and higher education, and Budget setting and monitoring.

His skills also cover training of non-finance professionals and reinstating accounts to reflect IFRS, Review, design and implementation of internal control systems – Risk Management, Auditing and Report Writing, Staff management, and system improvement, and IT Skills – Excel, PowerPoint, SAGE, QuickBooks, SPSS, Stata, Tax filer, VT Transaction, Payroll Manager, Topaz Accounting, and others.
