The Governing Council of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has paid a courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, to thank him for participating in Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo’s investiture as the foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University.
His participation in the investiture on May 26, 2023, was the first visit to the Kumasi Campus of the University since 2005 when he last visited the campus. On that occasion, he made a passionate appeal to the government then to cede the campus from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and transform it into a full-fledged university to train technical and vocational education teachers to boost the TVET sector of the country. He also worked tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve the eventual establishment of AAMUSTED on August 27, 2020.
Some members of the Council and Management of the University, led by Nana Bamfi-Adomako, Council Member and a celebrated Retired University Administrator, were delegated by the University Council to call on the King at the Manhyia Palace on July 5, 2023.
Nana Bamfi-Adomako did not mince words about the invaluable role that the Asantehene played towards the establishment of AAMUSTED and the success recorded during the investiture because of his participation, public expression of confidence in Prof. Sarfo and pledge to support AAMUSTED to soar high. “Otumfuo, your royal presence announced the existence of AAMUSTED to the whole world,” he emphasised, beaming with gratitude.
In response, His Majesty expressed happiness that through the collective efforts and ingenuity of many individuals and institutions, Asanteman had gotten a second public university with the unique mandate to train people in Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET) and Entrepreneurship.
He reiterated the importance of TVET and Entrepreneurship to the nation’s development and cited Germany as an example for Ghana to emulate.
He expressed confidence in Prof. Sarfo as the right person to lead AAMUSTED and touted the depth of knowledge and experience of Prof. Sarfo is crucial to the development of the University.
Meanwhile, he advised the Vice-Chancellor to work cordially with staff and students for the development of the University, re-echoing his unwavering support for the development of the University.
The other members of the delegation were Prof. Frederick Sarfo, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Stephen Baffour Adjei, Convocation Representative on Council; Prof. Emmanuel Dartey, UTAG Representative on Council; Mr. Benjamin Nketiah, TEWU Representative on Council; and Mr. Augustus Kwaw Brew, Registrar and Council Secretary.
