The Men’s Cross-Country Team of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has secured the bronze medal at the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) 10-kilometer Cross-Country Championship for 2025.
The 28th GUSA Cross-Country Championship and Second Minor GUSA Games took place from October 27 to November 1, 2025, at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Somanya, Eastern Region, Ghana.

This achievement marks the second consecutive bronze medal for AAMUSTED in the competition. The University first claimed third place at the 27th GUSA Cross-Country Championship hosted by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, where the team delivered an unexpected performance by defeating several tournament favorites.
The University aimed to improve upon its previous performance; however, its leading athlete sustained an injury during final preparations for the tournament, presenting a significant setback to the team’s prospects.
Thirteen Ghanaian public universities participated in the championship, including KNUST, University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University for Development Studies (UDS), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS).
The others were Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), UESD, and University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
The cross-country format required each institution to field six male and six female competitors in separate races, with the top four finishers from each team contributing to the final score. Teams with fewer than four competitors were permitted to participate on a non-scoring basis, with athletes allotted a maximum of 80 minutes to complete the 10-kilometer course.

AAMUSTED’s top four finishers completed the race in 7th, 9th, 13th, and 16th positions, accumulating 45 points. The team finished marginally behind UDS and UCC in the final standings.
The AAMUSTED Men’s Team comprised Joseph Gyamfi, Bernard Tampuli, Ismail Fialor, Nathaniel Kparib, John Tahiru, and Felix Korankye, listed according to their race positions.
In the Women’s Race, AAMUSTED fielded only one athlete, Amida Issaka, who competed on a non-scoring basis and delivered a commendable performance, finishing in seventh position.

In the Second GUSA Minor Games, AAMUSTED placed fourth in the Tug of War event and was eliminated during the group stages of the Ampe competition.
