The Governing Council of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Kumasi, announces for the information of the Academic Community and the General Public that the under listed positions of the University shall become vacant on July 01, 2023.                                                                          

They are:

  1. PRINCIPAL (ASANTE MAMPONG CAMPUS)
  2. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

THE UNIVERSITY

The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) was established by the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development Act 2020 (Act 1026) on 27th August, 2020. AAMUSTED, (formerly, Kumasi and Asante Mampong Campuses of University of Education, Winneba), is charged with the responsibility of providing higher education in technical, vocational and entrepreneurial training to develop skilled manpower for job creation and economic development; train and provide teachers with the relevant competence for teaching in technical and vocational education and training institutions; train and provide teachers with the relevant competence for teaching entrepreneurial development and to develop a strong linkage between the University, industry and the community.

The University has two (2) campuses, a student population of approximately 25,940 and employees numbering approximately860, made up of teaching and non-teaching staff.

  1. THE PRINCIPAL POSITION

Under the directives of the Vice-Chancellor, the Principal provides administrative and academic leadership for the Campus. The Principal shall be responsible for maintaining good governance of the Campus in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by the Act and Statutes of AAMUSTED.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

An applicant must possess the following:

             a.   a minimum of 15 years post-qualification experience in Teaching/ Research/Industry.
             b.   a PhD in a relevant field/discipline.
             c.   be of Professorial status or equivalent grade in an analogous institution.
             d.   be a distinguished scholar with the capacity to motivate and direct staff.
             e.   exhibit a high sense of industry, leadership qualities and organisational skills and must be above reproach.
             f.   possess excellent communication and inter-personal skills with capacity to manage and control crisis situations.
             g.   be visionary, business-oriented and able to establish rapport between industry and the University or Campus.
             h.   be sober with maturity and drive for sound and impartial judgement.
             i.    be able to attract grants and funds for Research and Development activities for the Campus.

2. THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN POSITION

The University Librarian is a member of the University Management Committee. He/she will be required to provide both academic and administrative leadership to staff in the University Library. The Librarian implements the decisions of the Library Board and ensures that the libraries and the information communication materials of the University are managed in accordance with rules and regulations approved by the Academic Board.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

An applicant must possess the following:

 a.  A minimum of a researched master’s degree in library studies/Library Science /Information Studies, with at least 12 years post-qualification experience in a University Library or analogous institutions and at the grade of Deputy Librarian or its analogous. A PhD in a relevant field of study would be an advantage.

b.  And in addition, must:

        i. show evidence of research publications in his/her area of specialisation in peer reviewed Journals/Publications;
       ii. have deep knowledge of library management, good knowledge in traditional and electronic library practices with                 evidence of ability to lead a University Library;
      iii. have good skills in the use of library related IT and Integrated Library Systems; and,
      iv. being a member of a relevant professional association is mandatory.

TERMS OF APPOINTEMENT AND TENURE OF OFFICE

  1. The Principal must be able to serve a four-year term of office from the date of appointment. The appointment may be renewed for another term of three (3) years, but not beyond the statutory retiring age of Sixty (60) years.
  2. The University Librarian must be eligible to hold office for a four-year term from the date of appointment.  The appointment may be renewed for a further term of four (4) years, but not beyond the statutory retiring age of Sixty (60) years.
  3. Fringe benefits attached to the positions are attractive.
