APPOINTMENT OF REGISTRAR, UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, AND DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
The Governing Council of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Kumasi, announces for the information of the Academic Community and the General Public that the under listed positions of the University shall become vacant on 1st October 2022.
They are:
- REGISTRAR
- UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
- DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
THE UNIVERSITY
The Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) was established by the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development Act 2020 (Act 1026) on 27th August, 2020. AAMUSTED, (formerly, Kumasi and Asante Mampong campuses of University of Education Winneba), is charged with the responsibility of providing higher education in technical, vocational and entrepreneurial training to develop skilled manpower for job creation and economic development; train and provide teachers with the relevant competence for teaching in technical and vocational education and training institutions; train and provide teachers with the relevant competence for teaching entrepreneurial development and to develop a strong linkage between the University, industry and the community.
The University has two campuses, a student population of approximately 25,940 and employees numbering approximately 920, made up of teaching and non-teaching staff.
1. THE REGISTRAR POSITION
The Registrar, who is the Chief Administrative Officer, is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the University under the Vice-Chancellor and in accordance with policy directives of the University Council. The Registrar is also the secretary to the University Council and the Academic Board. S/he provides strategic advice and briefings to the Vice-Chancellor and is expected to provide leadership and management across a wide-range of activities.
Qualification and Experience
Applicant must possess the following:
Either,
- at least a master’s degree in relevant field with not less than 15 years post-qualification experience in an institution of higher education and at the grade of a Deputy Registrar. OR
- senior management experience in a large, complex, and decentralised organisation, preferably in an academic institution.
In addition, must have
- strong intellect with excellent managerial, communication and interpersonal skills;
- a deep appreciation of the academic working environment of a tertiary educational institution;
- high principles with strong and proven sense of public morality and integrity;
- an understanding of university governance, the history, regulations and evolution of universities as well as local higher education policy and practice; and,
- considerable experience in dealing with a wide-range of internal and external publics.
2. THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN POSITION
The University Librarian is a member of the University Management Committee. He/she will be required to provide both academic and administrative leadership to staff in the University Library. The Librarian implements the decisions of the Library Board and ensures that the libraries and the information communication materials of the University are managed in accordance with the rules and regulations approved by the academic board.
Qualification and experience
Applicant must possess the following:
- at least a minimum of a researched master’s degree in library studies/Library Science /Information Studies, with at least 15 years post-qualification experience in a University Library or analogous institutions and at the grade of Deputy Librarian or its analogous
- And in addition, must:
- have evidence of research publications in area of specialisation in peer reviewed Journals/Publications;
- be a strong knowledge of library management, strong capability of traditional and electronic library practices with evidence of ability to lead a University library;
- have strong skills in the use of library related IT and Integrated Library Systems; and,
- be a member of relevant professional association is mandatory.
3. THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE POSITION
The Director of Finance is the Head of the Finance Directorate and shall be responsible, under the Vice-Chancellor, for the financial administration and the integrity of the finances of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).
Qualifications required and experience
Applicant must possess the following:
- at least a minimum of master’s degree preferably, MBA/MSc in Accounting/Finance, with at least 15 years post-qualification experience in a reputable and recognised practicing firm, industry, commerce and/or public service, preferably in a management position and at the grade of Deputy Finance Director/Officer or Deputy Internal Auditor or analogous positions
- And in addition, must:
- be a member of a recognized professional Accountancy/Auditing body (ICA/ACCA/CIMA/CA/CPA, etc.);
- be a distinguished professional with capacity to motivate and direct staff;
- be above reproach and must exhibit a high sense of industry, leadership qualities and organizational skills; and,
- have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
TENURE OF OFFICE
n all positions, candidates must be eligible to hold office for a minimum of four (4) years from the date of appointment. The appointment may be renewed for further term for up to four (4) years but not beyond statutory retiring age of Sixty (60) years.
